Guatemala

Experience active volcanos, rain forest, and a whole new culture! On this trip you will be based in Antigua, Guatemala's "old city" with cobblestone streets and surrounded by volcanoes, with a night spent at Lake Atitlan. In addition to hiking and sightseeing, you will go ziplining, horseback riding, visit plantations , and roast marshmallows over an active volcano!

For those who are in very good physical shape with an adventurous spirit and open to a more rustic experience, we are pleased to offer an excursion up the Acatenango volcano. This option includes a jeep ride, camping overnight in very rustic conditions in near freezing temperatures, and then an extensive pre-dawn hike to watch sunrise over the clouds with the Fuego volcano erupting below you.

Food on this trip will be obtained through the Chabads of Guatemala. Certain snacks and food alternatives may not be available.

Day 5

Meet up at the GUA airport. Those who arrive early will be able to spend the morning in Antigua. Then everyone will meet as we head together to Lake Atitlan.

Start your day off with an optional early morning hike up Indian Nose to watch sunrise over Lake Atitlan. We'll take a cultural tour of San Pedro and San Juan where we'll visit a women's weaving cooperative, a bee sanctuary, ride a tuktuk, and more. After an enjoyable lunch we will take a boat across the lake for an afternoon of ziplining above the rainforest and with lake views below. Then we head towards Antigua where we will be based for the next 3 days.

Begin your day with a traditional Guatemalan breakfast before heading out on a coffee plantation tour.  After a hearty lunch we will head for the active Pacaya Volcano where you will choose to either hike or horseback ride up the mountain.  Enjoy the unique opportunity to roast marshmallows over the hot volcanic vents.

Take the morning to explore the charming town of Antigua. After lunch, you will either visit Hobbitenango and Altamira, or those who choose to add on the (strenuous) Acatenango adventure will head out for their overnight camping experience on the Acatenango volcano.

Start your morning with a hot breakfast before heading to your tour of a macadamia plantation! Those with an early departure will head to the airport while the rest of the group will fit in a final hike as we bid goodbye to Guatemala.
